The John H. Lechleiter Family Endowment for the Benefit of Saint James School

A proud graduate of the Saint James School Class of 1942, John Howard Lechleiter never forgot the great gift of his Catholic education throughout his lifetime. Later graduating from Saint Xavier High School and Xavier University, he married Jeanne Claire Byerly on June 28, 1952 and from there they set out on a journey of raising their nine children in the Catholic faith tradition from which they both benefited.

Remembering the impact of Saint James School on the extended Lechleiter Family, John and Jeanne’s eldest son, John, and his wife, Sarah, established an endowment fund at the Catholic Education Foundation with a commitment of $5 million. Earnings from the fund will provide tuition assistance in perpetuity to any qualifying family whose child attends Saint James School.

Founded in 1906 in Louisville’s Highlands neighborhood, Saint James School has provided an outstanding Catholic education to thousands of young children in the Louisville community for generations. It is the hope of the Lechleiter Family that this endowment fund will extend the unequaled experience of a Saint James Catholic education for generations to come.
