The Gahafer family recently founded a new permanent endowment fund at the Foundation in honor and memory of their parents, Mary Ann and Joseph Gorman ‘Gus’ Gahafer.
While it may have been a financial challenge for each of their respective families, Mary Ann and Gus were both privileged to attend Catholic schools while growing up in Louisville. They continued to make Catholic education a priority with their own family and sacrificed to send all seven of their children to Catholic grade schools and high schools throughout the country with Gus’s career as a Naval Aviator. The family ultimately resided in Louisville as active members of the St. Rita and St. Louis Bertrand parishes.
Mary Ann and Gus recognized the value of faith-based education, in addition to the character that is developed through Catholic formation. They were both outstanding role models of service to others and contributed immensely to school and parish leadership activities. The faithful example they provided to their family was immeasurable. Therefore, in their honor, the family has established this fund to afford other children the opportunity that Mary Ann and Gus gave theirs.
Earnings from the fund will be used exclusively to provide tuition assistance to Catholic elementary students in the Archdiocese of Louisville.
